" I do not seek to
understand in order
that I may believe,
but rather, I believe
in order that I may understand. "
– Anselm of Canterbury
“Faith Seeking Understanding” is the name and motto of this monthly reading group on Christian Doctrine, which is extracted from Anselm of Canterbury’s words.
This group aims to discover our rich Christian Doctrine so as to equip the participants with the ability to reflect on and theologise their personal and communal faith and experiences. We will reflect on the Apostles’ Creed which is widely accepted by different denominations and covers many core theological concepts, such as Trinity, Christology, Ecclesiology, and Eschatology.
We will read Wolfhart Pannenberg’s The Apostles’ Creed in the Light of Today’s Questions together from April 2025 to March 2026. It is a classic book recording his lectures at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, which would be a good starting point for us to approach the Apostles’ Creed and relate it to our modern situation.
